Biology/Biological Sciences
The bachelor's opens the lab. The PhD opens the name.
Bio is the on-ramp to every health-adjacent career — med school, dental, pharmacy, PA, accelerated nursing. It's also the cheapest way to try research before committing 5+ years to a PhD.
With just the bachelor's, entry is lab tech at $52k and the ceiling without more school is around $75k. Most bio grads go on — med school, grad school, or a different major via SMP/post-bacc programs.
Natural sciences managers ($161k) and medical scientists ($100k+) are the real ceiling. Both need a master's or PhD. If you don't plan to go further, pair the bachelor's with stats or CS to stay versatile.
AI reshapes wet-lab work — automated pipetting, literature review, drug-discovery pipelines. Bench scientists still design, debug, and troubleshoot. Fewer pure-hands-on roles, more thinking-plus-tools roles.
